Brooks Koepka’s Done With Slow Play: Golf Gets “Boring From Holes 5 To 12”

Brooks Koepka PGA Championship @europeantour

Brooks Koepka has a solution for slow play. Cut down the number of holes on the course.

The 3-time major winner was a guest on Barstool’s Pardon My Take Podcast on Wednesday and was asked if he had a solution to speed up play. Here was his response:

“You’re out there for 5 1/2 hours. I mean, how bad is that? No one wants to spend 5 1/2 hours out there,” Koepka said about the pace of play on Tour. “Literally, I would just make it like 15 holes, 14 holes. Because then you get to go to the 19th hole a little bit quicker.”

We can get on board with that!

“It gets boring from like hole 5 to 12. You are just like, Where am I right now? I literally can’t tell you what happened during those holes. You kind of like blackout. Everything is repetitive. Anything in between [the start and finish], it’s just whatever.”

Reminder: This is coming from a guy who’s won 3 out of the last 7 majors! Does Brooksy have a point? Yes. Will anything this drastic be done about it, probably not. But the fact is, he’s one of the games great players so we should take what he says somewhat seriously.

Time is something we always wish we had more of. Nobody wants to watch a 20+ handicap line up every putt for 5 minutes that they’re inevitably going to miss for 18 holes when they have 10,000 things to do that day.

Unfortunately, the reality is that there are plenty of amateurs out that think they are pros. The thing is, time doesn’t stop when you’re on the golf course. In order to grow it, we need to limit the time we are spending out there. Waiting sucks. Play faster.
