Matsuyama’s Honest Assessment After Koepka’s Runaway Victory In Japan: “Language-Wise…There’s A Huge Gap Between Us”

(TIS) — In an honest assessment after finishing 10 shots back of Brooks Koepka at the Japan Tour’s Dunlop Phoenix event over the weekend, Hideki Matsuyama explained why he believes there is currently such a large disparity between his game and the reigning U.S. Open champion’s.
“Language-wise, I feel there’s a huge gap between us,” Matsuyama said to reporters. “As you know, English is his first language and mine is Japanese. That right there is worth at least 2 strokes aside.”
Matsuyama, who regularly travels with a translator, says that he’s been working hard on his adjectives and adverbs, but knows it’s a process.
“I’m just trying to ……………….. remain patient,” he said while pausing in the middle of the sentence, much like the one you’d find in his golf swing.
