Tour Pro Gets Hammered, Misses WGC Tee Time, Makes $43K For The Effort
- Updated: October 30, 2017
The best part about playing in a WGC event is being disqualified from it and still getting paid. Shugo Imahaira took full advantage of this lovely little perk last week at the WGC-HSBC Champions after not showing up for his tee time on Saturday.
“Honestly, I’m just really hungover,” the 25-year-old Japanese pro said through a translator in between bouts of dry heaving after finding out he was DQ’d. “Me and my boy Hideki [Matsuyama] got after it last night … lotta sake if you know what I mean!”
Turns out Imahaira showed up 5 hours late but was still awarded $43,000 for his efforts, which reportedly included getting thrown out of multiple bars and peeing on several parked cars.
“I have the best job in the world,” he shouted while running to the nearest garbage can, presumably to puke into again.
(Editor’s note: contents of this story are slightly fabricated … but Imahaira really did miss his 3rd round tee time and was awarded the last place check worth $43K)
