WATCH: Patrick Reed Makes Ugly Bogey On 72nd Hole At Valspar Championship

Patrick Reed did everything he could to get himself into contention to win on Sunday at the Valspar Championship – including wearing a red Nike shirt with black pants – but golf happened on the 72nd hole and unfortunately, he lost.

Reed started the final round three shots off the lead, but got his day going quickly when he chipped-in eagle on the opening hole. He then birdied the par-5 14th hole to grab a share of the lead with Paul Casey.

Needing a par to tie and birdie to win on the difficult par-4 18th, Reed’s approach came up short, leaving a nearly impossible putt where he’d be forced to go through the fringe before going up the hill to the back tier where the hole was located.

“Hit a good drive, and I thought I hit a good wedge shot into the green,” Reed said after the round.

“When I saw people kind of waving back, I knew it was kind of coming down the hill. It happened to be unfortunate, it got around the corner of the green where I was on the green, had to go over the fringe through about 7 feet of fringe and back on the green and I thought I could putt it and I pulled out putter first time and I gave it extra because I knew it was going to either pop or come out slow.

I just didn’t hit it hard enough, obviously. Absolutely killed it and the ball rolled back down to where it was. I knew there was no way I could putt it. It had to be a chip. I chipped and ended up there to 6 inches and tap-in.”

According to Shotlink, only 3 inches separated his third shot from his fourth. We’ve all been there!

The bogey dropped Reed back into a tie for second with his idol, Tiger Woods, who also conveniently wears the same thing as him on Sundays.
