Breakfast Ball: Two Shots We Want Back From This Week

Welcome to the Two Inches Short’s Breakfast Ball, where we review and break down what we learned last week on tour. Think of it as the golf edition of Monday Morning Quarterback.

Here are 2 things we saw at the European Tour’s Scottish Open that we’d like to have back:

Harry? Security?! SECURITY!!!

On Friday at the Aberdeen Scottish Open, one lucky fan got a chance to take a swing with one of Rory’s clubs! He didn’t win some sort of sweepstakes though.

Instead, he walked right up to Rory’s bag, grabbed a club, and walked up to the tee box.

It was such an odd scenario and from it came many questions, one of which being where was the security? The question we have though is what the hell was Rory’s caddie, Harry Diamond doing?

The caddie serves many purposes, with each Tour pro having his own specific needs. But one common responsibility across all of them is that they are responsible for the golf bag and its contents at all times.

It’s understandable that he would not expect a spectator to cross the impenetrable rope barrier and grab a club, but it seems like he maybe could have identified that there was an issue and reacted a little quicker.

I mean, what did he think was happening at that moment? Was he expecting a drunken TaylorMade rep to come and swap out a damaged club on the first tee box?

It was likely the first time this happened to them, but we think it’s safe to say that Harry won’t let this happen again.

Cold Top

On Saturday at the Aberdeen Scottish Open, we found out that the number 3 player in the world is indeed one of us.

On the par-five 10th, Justin Thomas was going for the green in two and he hit the most relatable shot of all: a cold top.

Now we’ve all been there before. After a nutted drive, we convince ourselves and the rest of our foursome that we can get home in two.

After several minutes of looking back and forth between the occupied green and the group waiting on the tee box, we finally get to hit the much anticipated shot only to dribble it up the fairway to the spot we should have laid up to in the first place.

Unfortunately, JT’s ball didn’t get so lucky. Instead, it found a pot bunker and he bogeyed the hole. The relatability for us amateurs stops there though as he still finished -15 for the week, tied for 8th, and just 3 back of the lead.

Still, we think he’d like to have that shot back.
