Bubba Watson Breaks Driver Mid-Swing, Still Hits The Fairway

Bubba has officially lost his head! On Friday at the Travelers Championship, Bubba Watson broke his driver mid-swing on the second hole sending the head flying. FORE!

Watson, who’s a 3x Travelers champ, clearly felt something was wrong as soon as he made contact and cut his swing short, almost like a check swing for all you baseball fans out there.

Of course, he still hit the freakin’ fairway!

Here’s what Bubba said happened after the round:

It’s one of the things where the driver is travel, heat, cold, whatever it is, over time, overuse, my driver head popped off. It’s the shaft right above the hosel. It’s cracked, broke, whatever you want to call it…

Did it probably — the last time it happened might have been Korea, Presidents Cup in Korea. I remember right before the first tee on the driving range.

Got to get some Protracer on that club head though. That would’ve been fun.

Fortunately, he didn’t kill anybody…but Bubba did take a shot at Brooksy because Brooksy jokes never seem to get old:

Once you hit, you’re focused on where the driver head goes. So, again, luckily — but if I was going to hit anybody I was hoping it would be Brooks. But I missed him though. Not that good of an aimer.

According to the rules of golf, since it happened during play he was allowed to replace the driver if he had another shaft, which he did, and got it back 2 holes later…

But not before loyal caddie, Ted Scott tried to remove a piece of the shaft that was stuck in the hosel like Tom Hanks in Castaway trying to crack open a coconut for survival.
