Don’t drop the club…don’t drop the club…don’t drop the club. Of course, you dropped the club! Scott McCarron endured arguably the most boneheaded one-shot penalties of the year on Friday during the first round of the PGA Tour Champions Dominion Energy Charity Classic.
McCarron was cruising along at 1-under through 17 when he received a free drop near the 18th green. After using the proper drop protocol, butterfingers McCarron’s driver slipped out of his hands and fell onto the ball, causing it to move.
The rules official promptly made the call and naturally, McCarron took it out on his driver. He went on to make bogey and finish at even par.
