CBS Cutting The Cord With Longtime Golf Analysts

Peter Kostis Gary McCord

It’s the end of an era. CBS is cutting the cord with two of their longtime analysts, Gary McCord and Peter Kostis after 30+ years of service. Some might even say they’re cutting the McCord…

Both contracts were expiring but were expected to be back on the course in January. That’s obviously not happening now and apparently neither was too thrilled with the decision.

“This is not how I would have preferred to see it end,” McCord, who was banned from covering the Masters years ago because of some innocent “bikini wax” and “body bags” comments he made, said according to Golf Digest.

“I’m going on 72. I’ve been doing this for 30-odd years. I knew I was coming to the end of the deal, but I was going to go out on my terms. That’s not happening now … bottom line, they fired me.”

“You just don’t do something like this,” he continued. “You shouldn’t do it this way. No chance to say thanks to the viewers, to all my CBS friends? That’s what you get for 35 years?”

McCord even said the Chairman of CBS Sports, Sean McManus, called him and Kostis stale! STALE! Has this man ever watched a golf broadcast on CBS?

“He [McManus] tells me, and he told Peter [Kostis] the same thing, that ‘We think CBS golf is getting a little stale, and we need to go in another direction,’ ” McCord said. “I’ve been called a lot of things, but one thing I’ve never been called is stale.”

While they still have Nantz, they are still miles behind NBC who continues to innovate and at least try to push the boundaries … did you hear the Players will show every shot on NBC? Exactly.

Meanwhile, CBS shows more critical shots “a moment ago” and commercials on a Sunday that doctors actually say is detrimental to your health.

“I have been thinking quite a bit about requesting a reduced travel schedule,” Kostis said in a statement. “CBS made my decision easier when they elected to not exercise the two-year option on my contract.”

But he summed it up best with a mic-drop signoff line taking what appears to be a massive dump on the FedEx Cup.

“Bye for now! I’m off to UPS to send some packages!”

If we slow it down on the Konica Minolta Swing Vision camera, you can actually pinpoint the exact moment Kostis sets the PGA Tour on fire with this massive burn.

So who will replace them?

If we’re being honest, it’s not easy to fill the void of the incoherent ramblings of a McCord or Kostis being incredibly biased towards one of his students. Not to mention they’ve been voices on the network for over 30 years!

Word is Davis Love III will fill one of the spots. But what about the other? Will we have an on-course Tony Romo reporting live and throwing interceptions at the Masters? Will one or both of the Brothers Immelman get some run? It will be interesting to see which direction they choose to go.
