Lowry’s Open Win Is A Win For Average Guys Everywhere

Shane Lowry. Champion golfer of the year! What a week for the Irishman who grew up 3 hours away from Royal Portrush. Lowry posted an impressive final round +1 73 in adverse weather to win the 148th Open Championship by SIX over Tommy Fleetwood.
Not only is it a life-changing win for the 32-year-old, but it’s also a win for average guys everywhere. Look, we get it takes strength and endurance to compete in a major, but no disrespect, Lowry isn’t exactly built like Brooks Koepka.

He’s listed at 6’1″ 235 lbs, has a beard, a wife, a kid and a dad bod. Seems relatively normal. Probably even sounds like somebody you may know. The only difference is that he’s better than you at golf. Like, way better. He’s a major champion.
He looks like the kind of guy who enjoys several pints of Guinness at one time and could put down Irish whiskey by the barrel. Someone you can sit down at a bar with a start shooting the shit with, even watch a game with. Except he flushes the golf ball.
He blew a 4 shot lead at the U.S. Open back in 2016. He learned. He grew. He overcame. Honestly, it’s hard not to root for Lowry.
In the age of the “athlete”, it’s refreshing to see a normal-looking, slightly overweight dude dust the field after 72 holes of major championship golf. It should give us all hope.
