Behind every great golfer is usually a great swing coach. On Wednesday, Ian Poulter was spotted before the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City, South Africa getting some last minute advice from his new instructor, Koko the monkey.

“After nearly losing my Tour card earlier this year and only getting it back because of a clerical error, I decided it was time to make some changes,” the 41-year-old Englishman said. “One of which was to begin working immediately with Koko.”

Since parting ways with world-renowned coach Pete Cowen, Poulter’s notched two top-10s, one of which was at the Players, and has seen his world ranking improve 153 spots. Now, that’s no monkey business.

“She just gets me,” he said while feeding her treats out of his open palm. “I like our chances this week.”

When asked what it’s like working with Poulter on a daily basis, Koko responded by picking up a wad of feces from the ground and throwing at the reporter.

(Editor’s note: contents of this story are slightly fabricated … this monkey is not actually Poulter’s new swing coach, but for some reason, it still sounds semi-believable)
