Rickie Confuses Mayakoba For Spring Break Destination, Struggles To Keep Shirt On At OHL Classic

(TIS) — Rickie Fowler got his 2017-18 campaign underway south of the border this week at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. While his game is looking sharp, according to the 28-year-old, it’s been a struggle to keep his shirt on.

“Yeah, I mean the swing feels good and I’m rolling it well. That’s all you can really ask for out of the gate,” said Fowler after posting a bogey-free 6-under 65 on Thursday. “I think the only thing holding me back from going super low is this damn shirt.”

Fowler, a founding member of the #SB2K crew, is all too familiar with ditching the confines of conventional clothing when frequenting a tropical paradise. Normally, standard spring break golf attire consists of flip-flops and boardshorts … a far cry from this week’s required pants and shoes in Playa del Carmen.

“When I saw Mexico marked on my calendar for November, naturally I assumed the boys and I were gonna rage,” he explained. “It was only after I got to the airport without my clubs did my agent inform me I had an event to play in. What offseason … am I right?!”

Fortunately for Fowler, the clubs were shipped and delivered on time, but the real challenge has been changing his mindset from puking and rallying to actual real work.

“For sure, it’s been a grind mentally, but I’ll get through it,” he said while popping his shirt off and swigging a bottle of Casamigos Tequila. “It’s a long season.”
