7 Outrageous Stats From the 2016-17 PGA Tour Season

As the 2017-18 PGA Tour season gets underway, now would be a good time to take a look at some of the most ridiculous stats of last season which ended all but just a couple short weeks ago (seriously…catch your breath!)

Sure current World No.1 DJ led the Tour in overall strokes gained (1.905) and Spieth led in scoring average (68.85), but everybody knows that. We’re talking about the stats that make you stop and say “woah” during the 2016-17 season:

$3,596 — Justin Thomas’ earnings per stroke this season

This is not a typo! If you exclude the money earned during the Zurich Classic (team event) and the WGC-Dell Match Play (where strokes aren’t counted), Thomas took 5,482 strokes in a year that saw 5 wins including a major, and the FedEx Cup (+ $10 MILLON). Carry the two, that’s an absurd amount of green every time you take the club back.

29 — Total 400+ yard drives

If chicks dig the long ball, then last season was one of the most satisfying on record. More 400-yard drives were recorded than any of the last four years on Tour.  But according to the USGA, the ball doesn’t travel any farther, so we got that going for us, which is nice. Naturally, DJ had the longest with this 439-yard tape measure shot at the WGC-Bridgestone.

5 — Total 400+ yard drives by a Single Player

5 of those 29 bombs were courtesy of none other than DJ. Granted Rory led the Tour in driving distance at 317.2, DJ checked in at 315. Here were his five that cracked the four-barrier:

  • 439 – WGC-Bridgestone, Firestone CC #16
  • 428 – SBS Tournament of Champions, Kapalua Plantation #18
  • 413 – The Memorial, Muirfield Village #17
  • 409 – SBS Tournament of Champions, Kapalua Plantation #12
  • 404 – SBS Tournament of Champions, Kapalua Plantation #17

All together that’s 2,093 yards…or 6,279 feet…or 1.19 MILES!!!!

95’7″ — Longest Putt Holed

Slick Nick Watney rattled one home from way downtown on Glen Abbey’s 16th hole during the first round of the RBC Candian Open. The putt measured nearly 100 feet and was the longest made since 2011 (Angel Cabrera, 103’5″).

40 — Consecutive GIRs

While most amateurs are trying to hit more than zero greens in reg a round, D.A. Points was out there hitting 40 of them in a row! How ridiculous is that number? JT had the second longest streak at 31. However, Tom Pernice’s record of 41 which he put together in 2002 still stands the most ever.

30 — Consecutive Fairways Hit

Danny Lee managed to split 30 fairways in a row at one point during the season. THIRTY! I’m not even sure if I could even hit a wedge 30 consecutive times in the fairway.

128.18 mph — Fastest Average Driver Clubhead Speed
