Tiger Doesn’t Know Where His 67 PGA Tour Trophies Are
- Updated: April 9, 2021
Rory McIlroy told a ridiculous story about Tiger Woods’ trophy case during his Masters press conference on Wednesday.
McIlroy went to pay Tiger a visit to see how he was doing a few weeks after the car accident and saw Tiger’s 15 major trophies in a case in his family room, which he thought was strange. Where were the others?
After all Tiger has 67 PGA Tour wins in addition to his 15 majors (not to mention he has 41 euro tour wins, which is third all time…insane.) So he decided to ask…
So that settles it: The Players is not a major.
Well, no more so than the Zozo Championship and The Motorola Western Open are. Imagine being so victorious for so long, that you just lose track of the spoils.
So I went over to Tiger’s house a few weeks ago to see him, and in his family room he’s got his trophy cabinet and it’s his 15 major trophies. I said, “That’s really cool. Where are all the others?”
He said, “I don’t know.” I go, “What?” He said, “Yeah, my mom has some, and a few are in the office and a few are wherever.”
I was driving home, and I was thinking — I mean, he talked — that’s all he cared about, all he cared about. So how easy that must have felt for him to win all the others.
This may be more relatable than it seems though. Do you still have your third place spelling bee trophy from 1998? What about the participation medal you got for finishing your high school basketball season 1-21?
You probably either threw them out or pawned them for greens fees years ago.
Will this become the new golden standard for Tour players?
Only keeping track of the important wins is a lofty goal, but not a bad one to have. Tiger has changed the game so much over the years, so why not?
Only time shall tell if this will catch on, but you better believe they’re all keeping track of those paychecks.
