Say Goodbye to the WGC-Bridgestone With Some Ridiculous Tiger Woods Highlights

Tiger-Woods-Wins-WGC-Bridgestone-Invitational 2013

R.I.P. WGC-Bridgestone … an event Tiger’s won 8 times.

The PGA Tour announced on Thursday that the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational will be moving to Memphis and will be renamed the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational starting in 2019. The tournament will replace the FedEx St. Jude Classic, which has been held in Memphis since 1958 and will be played at TPC Southwind.

“We are thrilled FedEx has signed on as the title sponsor of this World Golf Championships event,” said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan in a press release. “We look forward to working with FedEx and continuing to grow a tournament that it has supported for 30 years and carries one of the most impactful charitable stories on the PGA Tour.”

Conveniently, FedEx just re-upped their sponsorship of the season-long FedExCup until 2027 and their headquarters are located in Memphis.

Firestone C.C. which has played host to the WGC Invitational since 1999, will now host the Senior Players’ Championship until at least 2022. As one Akron, Ohio journalist said, it’s equivalent “of going from Major League Baseball to AA.” Ouch.

You know who loves Firestone? Tiger Woods. Of the 18 (soon to be 19 in August) WGC’s played there, he won EIGHT of them! LOL!

As we say goodbye to the Bridgestone, here’s a look back on some of Tiger’s highlight reel moments over the years in Akron … including a shot in the dark, a 61 and other ridiculousness:
