Breakfast Ball: Bubba Watson’s Big Bogey Blow Up
- Updated: June 28, 2021
After yet another memorable finish at The Travelers Championship, we learned some new things:
Kramer Hickok is a true grinder…
…and has clearly modeled his fist pump after Tiger Woods.
Against all odds, CBS is capable of showing all the important shots down the stretch of a tournament.
We were half expecting a 15-minute interview with the CEO of Travelers during the 7th and 8th playoff holes, followed by a “this was a moment ago” from Nantz.
But it was just straight-up golf the whole way through. Harris English may have the trophy, but CBS was the big winner today.
Prior to the 8 hole playoff, though, we witnessed an unexpected meltdown of epic proportions.
Bubba Watson, who broke his driver mid-swing earlier in the week, birdied the 9th to go out in 32 and take a one shot lead over a group of chasers at the turn.
After a string of pars, including one at the gettable par 5 13th, things started to get dicey for Bubba. He hung his tee shot and approach left on 14, leading to a bogey.
Then he made two more, followed by a double, and one more bogey at the last for good measure. He would go 6 over in his final 5 holes to shoot 73 and finish T19.
Bubba started his round as the favorite to win this tournament for the fourth time and finished it like a 10 handicap after a few beers. Hopefully he entered that score into GHIN and he can get a few strokes next time.
