Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm WD From Olympics After Positive COVID-19 Tests
- Updated: July 25, 2021
Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm are officially out of the Olympics after both tested positive for COVID-19.
According to a statement released on Saturday, DeChambeau tested positive as part of the final testing protocols before leaving the United States for Tokyo, Japan.
He will be replaced by Patrick Reed, the second most likable player on tour after Bryson.
DeChambeau said in a statement:
“I am deeply disappointed not to be able to compete in the Olympics for Team USA…
Representing my country means the world to me, and it is was a tremendous honor to make this team. I wish Team USA the best of luck next week in Tokyo…
I will now focus on getting healthy, and I look forward to returning to competition once I am cleared to do so.”
Does Bryson actually believe in science?
Maybe. After all, he does follow the scientific method like it’s his bible.
Or maybe he just thinks the vaccine sucks, like his driver – which also sucks.
Whatever the case, somewhere Brooksy Koepka is smiling (and by somewhere, we mean the SI Swimsuit launch party.)
Patrick Reed will become the only American to participate in 2 Olympic games. He represented Team USA in Rio back in 2016 where he finished 11th.
“I am so excited to have the opportunity to represent our country and be a part of Team USA in Tokyo,” Reed said in a statement.
“I wish Bryson nothing but the best, and I know how disappointed he is to not be able to compete, and I will do my best to play my best and represent our country.”
Hard to trust someone who uses the word “best” 1,000 times in one sentence and is also known as a serial cheater but that’s neither here nor there.
Reed joins Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, and Xander Schauffele representing Team USA in Tokyo.
Rahm tests positive…AGAIN?!
Rahm’s positive test was announced by the Spanish Olympic Committee early Sunday morning.
This is the current world no.1’s second positive test in 2 months! Apparently, the Spaniard is trying to accomplish the elusive failed COVID-19 test grand slam.
Remember when he had a 6 shot lead after 54 holes and was forced to WD at the Memorial?!
Sure he went on to win the U.S. Open to claim his first career major, but do you also remember when he said this before winning at Torrey Pines:
“I’ve got it all. I had it, I got the antibodies, got the vaccination. I feel invincible at this point.”
Nobody is invincible
In case you forgot, we are still going through a global pandemic. Could there be false positive tests? Sure.
Unfortunately, according to the Olympic protocols, these are the rules and if you fail the tests, you are out.
As it stands now, Rahm will not be replaced by Team Spain…but if we bet if they had their choice, they’d replace him with Seve.
Someone in Rahm’s camp is getting good at these WD statements!
