We give the PGA Tour a bunch of crap, but we need to give credit where credit is due.

In honor of the tragic passing of NBA superstar and sports legend, Kobe Bryant, the PGA Tour made the executive decision to dedicate the par-3 16th hole at the Waste Management Phoenix Open to the Black Mamba on Sunday.

Of course, the 16th hole is known as the biggest party in golf surrounded by 3-story skyboxes and 17,000+ hammered drunk fans, but during the final round, it will also serve as a memorial for one of the biggest sports icons the world has ever known with a pin placement honoring the great Los Angeles Lakers guard.

On Sunday, they cut the flag at 8:24 am and placed it 24 paces on and 8 from the left. The flag will have Bryant’s both retired numbers 8 and 24 in traditional Lakers colors.

What a cool move by the tour. Maybe that’s a little bit of what “living under par” means? Kudos to them for making the most of a terrible situation.

Plus it’s great to see the sport of golf aligning themselves with another major – and much more popular – worldwide game like the NBA.

PGA Tour players have been honoring Kobe all week in Phoenix.

Bryant wasn’t just a basketball player, he transcended sports and his legacy – and mentality – will live on forever. Mamba out.
