WATCH: Ian Poulter Cold Shanks One Into 16th Hole Stands At Phoenix Open
- Updated: February 3, 2018
As amateur golfers, we are all too familiar with the dreaded hosel rocket. However, when a pro does it, we can’t help but laugh. Ian Poulter picked the worst/best possible time to hit a cold shank when he dialed one up on the world famous par-3 16th at TPC Scottsdale late Friday during the second round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
The Englishman, who’s known more for his Ferraris rather than professional wins, caught it flush off the hosel with no more than a 9-iron in his hands and sent it screaming into the grandstands. Thankfully nobody was killed!
Out of all the places to hit a shank, 16 at Waste Management might be the worst. pic.twitter.com/XNmLG4QVAw

Poulter on 16: “It’s not my first shank, and it won’t be my last shank. That’s it. I laugh at it. It’s pretty funny.”

Needless to say, the boo birds were out – we assume because everybody hates Ian Poulter.
