Random Fan Steals Rory’s Golf Club Right Out Of His Bag At Scottish Open

Some random fan attempted to steal one of Rory McIlroy’s clubs in plain sight and very nearly succeeded. How in the world does this happen?
On Friday during the second round of the Scottish Open, a fan wandered onto the 10th tee at the Renaissance Club and casually snagged a club and Rory’s dog headcover right out his bag…right in front of him, his caddie, and Jon Rahm!
SECURITY!!!
Everyone just stood there in disbelief as this loser took a few waggles on the side of the tee box.
It wasn’t until about a full minute later that security showed up to arrest him.
These are the world’s best players. WTF?!
It was a group with Rory, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm. No slouches. Top performing athletes in the game. This was a total lapse of security and someone needs to be held accountable.
Sure, this isn’t the first time a fan has ducked under the ropes and it won’t be the last, but they were lucky.
Enough time elapsed to where something bad could have transpired. Thankfully, this guy was too dumb to do anything rash.

After the round, McIlroy spoke to SkySports about the incident: “I was surprised. Everyone saw what happened on TV. It was handled efficiently and everything was OK. I had no idea who it was.”
A spokesperson for the European Tour said: “At approximately 8am on Friday morning, a spectator entered the 10th tee area. He was quickly escorted from the tee by security personnel and the matter is now in the hands of Police Scotland.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were alerted to a man causing a disturbance within the grounds of the Renaissance Club in East Lothian, around 8am on Friday, July 9. The 35-year-old man has been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and inquiries are ongoing.”
