Fore Things We Learned From The Sentry Tournament Of Champions

Dustin Johnson flexed his muscles during the first PGA Tour event of 2018 winning the Sentry Tournament of Champions field by a mere 8-shots, essentially making the Plantation course at Kapalua his bitch finishing at 24-under par.
The 33-year old freak of nature has now won an event in 11 consecutive seasons, making him the 10th player to ever do so joining names like Tiger, Jack, and Arnie. It also makes you wonder if he’ll ever lose again.
Here are 4 things we learned this past weekend:
1. Drive for show, Drive for dough
The current world number one proved once again the age-old philosophy: drive for show, drive for dough. It’s rare a player’s best club is the big stick, but for DJ it’s not even close. He’s a course architect’s worst nightmare. The man takes lines no one else dares because frankly, nobody else can. Having a wedge in your hands 12 times from the middle of the fairway generally leads to better scores. Speaking of … did you hear he’s been working on his wedge game?
Yes, Kapalua is known to be kind to the long ball with its mostly downhill tee shots and speed slots, but what Big Dog Johnson did is ridiculous. FIFTEEN drives over 375 and averaged 324.7 yards. His longest? 430! He legit almost aced TWO par-4s over the weekend. It was awesome. He gained 2.23 strokes off the tee for the week which led the field, but gained an unfathomable 4.09 strokes on Sunday … or the best round ever at Kapalua.
Sure he holed only 3 putts longer than NINE feet the entire week, but he still won by EIGHT. That’s freakin’ absurd.
2. Untucked Hawaiin shirts are the new Sunday Red
We’re kidding. But, Slick Rick did debut a fresh new look during the first round rocking an untucked Hawaiian shirt with matching floral brim hat. Some would even say he looked like an employee of the resort. Although he’s able to pull it off, we highly doubt it will become a trend on Tour (definitely not at Augusta). Also, have to believe Rickie would trade fashion headlines for major winner headlines in a heartbeat.

3. Bones is back
For one week only, Phil Mickelson’s longtime former caddie, Jim “Bones” Mackay will be on Justin Thomas’ bag at next week’s Sony Open. The defending champ’s regular caddie, Jimmy Johnson is on the shelf with a foot injury so Bones is putting his blossoming TV career on hold to fill in at a track he last walked back in 1992. For perspective that was before JT was even born. Let’s go live to Lefty:

4. Paulina continues to be hotter than DJ’s driver
Random hilarious fact of the week
This was DJ’s 17th win on the PGA Tour before age 34. For perspective, Tiger had 71! Phil had 24.
