Golf Publication Masterfully Turns One Tiger Interview On Somebody Else’s Podcast Into 17 Different Headlines For Themselves
- Updated: November 5, 2017
When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. But, when life hands you Tiger Woods as a guest on a podcast, turn it into multiple headlines for maximum page views.
That’s exactly what one golf publication did on their website earlier this week when Big Cat made an appearance on legendary UCONN basketball coach Geno Auriemma’s new podcast, Holding Court.
In a wide-ranging interview, the 14-time major winner talked at length about a multitude of topics about a variety of things spanning from one subject to another. From a publication perspective, it was pure gold.
“We saw the Tiger interview as an opportunity to bolster our numbers to start the month since the content we’ll put out the rest of November will probably suck,” said the editor-in-chief of the publication who was too ashamed to reveal his name. “Why limit yourself to one story when you can click-bait the crap out of people and not even create it?”
The model seems to be working and surprisingly, it’s not rocket science.
“We’ve turned this hour and 14-minute discussion into 17 different headlines and our traffic is through the roof,” he said.
Although Tiger has always been known to move the needle, apparently it’s more of an art than you’d think.
“Most of our competition was only able to churn 13 headlines out of this one. Our staff did a tremendous job,” he gushed.
Some might even call it better than most.
(Editor’s note: contents of this story are slightly fabricated … and by fabricated, a majority of it didn’t happen. But you can imagine if it did.)
