OP-ED: Matt Kuchar Wins In Mexico, Gets Dogged By Golf Channel
- Updated: November 11, 2018
This post was a guest written by Charlie Rider, who plays to a +3 and once teed it up with Tiger. No joke. He also writes.
Matt Kuchar won the 2018 Mayakoba Classic, but the real headline this week was that David Duval and the Golf Channel were two inches short of the real story.
Was David Duval drunk during the broadcast?
Yes, Matt Kuchar dominated the field with a birdiefest compared to his playing competitors, but the way he was presented by the telecast failed to make sense to me.
David Duval was slurring his words and the whole time I was under the impression he was either under the influence or sick. Either way, I feel they missed a few things.
http://gty.im/484517938It was mentioned over and over that Kuchar had not won in over four years on tour and that this would only be his eighth win and he should have accomplished more.
In my
Matt Kuchar is a truly accomplished professional.
The point missed by the Golf Channel this week is that Matt Kuchar is one of the most consistent players on tour and very humble about his process.
http://gty.im/1066320138I feel that if Jordan Speith failed in the Open Championship 2017, the tone would have been different. Matt Kuchar did not give the British Open away

What I expect from Kuchar this 2019 season is, he will continue to put himself into positive positions to win and make almost every cut in every event just like he has the past ten years on tour.
If he wins again that’s great. If he doesn’t, let’s have a look at his stats by the end of the year.
Golf Channel dropped the ball.
As for David Duval and the rest of Golf Channel, they dropped the ball this week and missed the truth behind Matt Kuchar.
He flat out won the tournament by sticking to his game plan, putting very well and made the most birdies of anyone in the entire field.
That’s the truth this week and I’m sticking to it.
