Rapid Recap And Payouts: Sentry Tournament Of Champions

Xander Schauffele PGA Tour Tournament Of Champions

Xander Schauffele kicked off 2019 by capturing the PGA Tour’s Sentry Tournament of Champions by one shot over Gary Woodland at the picturesque Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii.

Rapid Recap

What happened: Xander Schauffele started the day 5 back of leader Gary Woodland and was unconscious on Sunday during the final round tying the course record firing an 11-under par 62, which included a bogey and a topped drive to win by one shot.

What it means: The win is the 24-year-old’s fourth on the PGA Tour and he jumps to No. 6 in the World Golf Ranking. He now has as many PGA Tour wins as Rickie Fowler. Not sure if that’s saying much, but it’s true.

Golf is hard: Gary Woodland posted a 5-under 68 and got lapped by a streaking Xander. He’s now failed to convert a 54-hole lead for the 7th time. And honestly, he did everything right except win.

Crazy stat of the day: According to Golf Channel’s Justin Ray, it was the lowest final round score to par by a winner on PGA Tour since Stuart Appleby’s closing 59 at Greenbrier in 2010.

Final Results & Payouts

The field was reserved only for the previous year’s champions and offered a $6.5 million purse with the winner’s share checking in at $1,300,000.

Last place gets $63,500 … No shirt, no shoes no cut, no problem!

Big shout out to Satoshi Kodaira and Michael Kim for getting beat by 27 shots over the course of 4 days and still making $63K for the effort!
