RECAP: Bubba Watson Wins WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play
- Updated: March 25, 2018
Bubba Watson made quick work of Kevin Kisner in the finals of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play winning 7&6 on Sunday afternoon at Austin Country Club.
The rout was on as soon as the match started with Bubba taking the first 5 holes. When they made the turn, he was 6up … by the 10th he was 7up!

Kisner made birdie on 11 to finally win a hole, but it was too little too late as Watson birdied the par-5 12th to win the match 7&6.
“I got off to a hot start, and I just focused on golf,” Bubba said after the round. “I was so focused on golf, so focused on committing to the shots. There were about four or five shots for the week where I wasn’t committed, where I kind of blanked out. So that’s pretty good over 100 and something holes, however many holes we played.”
It’s the largest margin of victory in the championship final since 2008, when Tiger Woods beat Stewart Cink, 8 and 7 in the then-36 hole final.
But Kisner was in fine spirits afterward reminding everybody “that’s why they call it golf.”
Bubba, who was the 35th seed, beat “pretty boy” Justin Thomas in the semi-finals earlier in the day 3&2.
He also took down Brian Harman and Kiradech Aphibarnrat along the way in the knockouts. Pretty stout competition:

The victory is Watson’s 11th PGA Tour victory in his career, and his 2nd this year. Not bad for somebody who said they’d retire after 10 wins.
Bubba heads into Augusta with confidence not only because he’s won two green jackets there, but he’s using a golf ball that seems to work.

More importantly, Matthew McConaughey was there! Alright, alright, alright!
