- Updated: September 23, 2018
Who
Tiger Woods. Tiger Freaking Woods. Also Justin Rose.
What
Woods won the Tour Championship. Rose captured the season-long race for the FedEx Cup.
Where
East Lake Golf Club. Atlanta, Georgia.
When
Sunday, September 23rd, 2018. Final Round.
Why it matters
Woods won for the first time in 5 years – a span which included 4 back surgeries – finishing 2 strokes better than runner-up Billy Horschel. This is Woods’ 80th PGA Tour win, moving him to within 2 of Sam Snead’s record. It also can be considered the culmination of one of the greatest comebacks the world of sports has ever seen.
Justin Rose made a birdie on the last to win the FedEx Cup and a cool $10 million. The Englishman was rock solid all year long going back to 2017 where he won the WGC-HSBC Champions then got another W at the Ft. Worth Invitational. In his last 28 worldwide individual starts, he finished in the top-10 21 times! Oh yeah, he also ascended to world no. 1 during that time.
Quotes
”The 80 mark is a big number … it’s a pretty damned good feeling” – Tiger Woods
“I felt like it was a slow death most of the day” – Justin Rose describing what it felt like trying to win the FedEx Cup.
