2018 Ryder Cup: Team USA Jumps Out To 3-1 Lead

The Ryder Cup is under way and the US raced out to a 3-1 lead after Friday morning’s fourball. Here’s what went down:

Member’s Bounce

Standing on the par-3 16th tee down 1 to Justin Rose and Jon Rahm, Tony Finau hit a shot and got one of the luckiest breaks potentially in Ryder Cup history.

He hit the bulkhead in front of the green, the ball bounced straight up in the air, and landed softly next to the pin for an “easy” birdie. Talk about a member’s bounce!

Spieth Can Putt

Apparently, this Spieth kid could still roll it. After taking last week off (because he didn’t make it into the field at the Tour Championship), he and JT came out firing almost holing his first approach shot of the day. He then went on to birdie 5 of his first 7 holes en route to a 1-up win over Euros Tyrrell Hatton and Paul Casey.

Tiger Did Not look Great

Fresh off his first win in 5 years, Tiger Woods looked …. well he didn’t look great. He and Patrick Reed struggled on the back 9 losing 5 of the last 7 holes to Tommy Fleetwood and Francisco Molinari, thanks in part to Fleetwood’s hair putter.

Rory Also Didn’t Look Good

Rory McIlroy didn’t make a birdie as he and Thorbjorn Olesen fell 4&2 to Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler. Everything about him looked off. Maybe it’s because he wasn’t wearing a hat or maybe it’s because he couldn’t hit it remotely close or hole a putt all morning.
