Come for Rory/DJ vs Rickie/Wolff LIVE, stay for Seminole Golf Club

The PGA Tour is back! Well, it’s sort of back at least for one day, hopefully.

Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson will take on Rickie Fowler and Matt Wolff in a televised match to raise money for COVID-19 relief at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, FL on Sunday, May 17th.

It will be aired live from 2-6 p.m. (ET) on NBC, Golf Channel, NBCSN and Sky Sports, and will be streamed for free on PGA Tour Live (NBC Sports Gold and Amazon Prime Video), GolfPass, GolfChannel.com.

If in fact, this does happen, it will be a must-see, not just for the golf.

Seminole is one of the most revered golf courses in the U.S.

The exclusivity is stunning, and so is the architecture. Donald Ross put this beauty together back in 1929.

The greens at Seminole are the main line of defense for the course and many of them are angled, narrowing towards the back which makes back pins extremely tough. The course is also built on a fairly rectangular piece of land next to the Atlantic but is routed in such a way that players face a new wind direction on each hole.

For us peasant golf nerds, it’s a mythical place considering it’s never on TV and we’ll probably never play it. But it’s real and it’s spectacular.

They also have an annual pro-member with a usually world-class stacked field (see: Jack Nicklaus.) Oh, and future Tampa Bay Buccaneer Hall of Famer Tom Brady is conveniently now a member… must be nice!

“We are excited about the safe and responsible return of live golf and the opportunity to raise significant funds for those on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic through the TaylorMade Driving Relief event,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan.

“With four of the PGA TOUR’s top stars in Rory, Rickie, Dustin and Matthew of Team TaylorMade participating and UnitedHealth Group serving as the foundation of charitable giving, and Farmers Insurance providing an additional bonus pool, golf fans around the world can look forward to a unique, interactive and entertaining event that will help those in need.”

McIlroy/Johnson will be playing for the American Nurses Foundation and Fowler/Wolff for the CDC Foundation.
