It’s All About The Birdies, Baby

Golf is a cruel, relentless game. It makes you laugh and it makes you cry. It makes you think one thing, then it does the other. Golf knocks you on your ass, kicks you in the ribcage, and then pours a warm Michelob Ultra on your head. I’ve walked off the golf course cursing with a piece of my driver in each hand asking myself why the hell I keep putting myself through this…

But the answer is simple. Birdies, baby. BIRDIES!

On the scorecard, a birdie is one under par.

You circle it with your pencil proudly. It takes away one of your five straight bogeys on the front nine and pretty much cuts your double on the last hole in half. It may even make you one under par through one and on pace to shatter the course record

But in actuality, a birdie is much more than one stroke.

It is the one time you took all the shit the golf course has given you all day, shoved it back in its face, and said, “suck on that bitch.”

Or, if your birdie happens before you get any shit from the course, it provides you with a rare moment of glory.

A number of times I have gone par-birdie on the first two holes and every one of these times, I have contemplated walking off the golf course on top.
