5 Quick Thoughts On Tiger Winning The 2019 Masters
- Updated: April 14, 2019
It happened. Tiger Woods is a Masters champion again. The 43-year-old with the fused back who said he was “done” two years ago won his fifth green jacket. Here are 5 quick thoughts:
Tiger is all the way back. The comeback is complete. The golf he played when it mattered most, down the stretch on the back 9 at Augusta, was basically perfect. He picked his spots when to attack and rolled in the putts when he needed them the most. The past few major Sundays he didn’t look as sharp as we were used to seeing and wasn’t able to close the door. This Sunday, Tiger closed the door. He played steady, calm golf because he’d been there before several times and let everybody else self destruct.
After the 12th hole when he tied the lead, you could sense something was happening. A pair of birdies on the par-5s, a couple of pars and a kick-in on the 16th later, he had a 2-shot lead standing on 18

From a personal standpoint, the man has totally reinvented himself. Heck, he’s probably gained more fans than he lost during his saga off the golf course. He’s got his own kids in the gallery now. He doesn’t sound like a robot anymore and I was almost convinced he lost that killer instinct. I was wrong. Not only does he still have it, this week he balanced everything in a way that makes you think this Tiger may even be better than the old. Which leads us to our next thought.
I can’t thank my family, friends and fans enough for their support. Having my family by my side today is something I will never forget. To not only be able to play again, but to be able to win again, is something I will forever be grateful for. This jacket sure is comfortable. pic.twitter.com/LsOUX2dWH1

The future: if he could stay healthy, there’s a better chance today than there was yesterday he’ll catch Jack’s major record of 18. He only needs 3 more! Theoretically, he can tie it this year. The PGA is at Bethpage Black which he won a U.S. Open in 2002, followed by the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach where he won by 15 back in 2000. And by the way, if he does that, he’ll break Sam Snead’s all-time PGA Tour win record of 82. He only needs 1 more! Even Jack thinks he’ll do it.
To pinpoint one thing that helps longevity at Augusta National it’s putting. @TigerWoods was perfect today inside 10 feet.

Putting is about nerve & nerves. As long as Tiger has that under control, he can win at @TheMasters for next 10 yrs. Tiger’s nerve is still pretty darn good!
