New 2020 Golf Schedule Released
- Updated: April 6, 2020
New dates have been announced for the remainder of the 2020 golf schedule, including majors. Thank you golf gods! The Fall season has the potential of being absolutely LIT!
We should warn you, although some of these dates say “official,” per the governing bodies, these are tentative with the current covid-19 virus situation and are subject to change. Here we go…
The Majors
The Masters, which was supposed to take place April 9-12, 2020 has been tentatively rescheduled by the men in green jackets to November 12-15, 2020. A fall Masters? Yes, please!
Statement from Chairman Ridley:
— The Masters (@TheMasters) April 6, 2020
“We have identified Nov 9-15 as the intended dates to host the 2020 Masters. We hope the anticipation of staging the Tournament brings a moment of joy to the Augusta community and those who love the game.”

The PGA of America also reconfirmed the Ryder Cup dates remain as scheduled for September 25-27, 2020 and will take place at Whistling Straits.

The 149th British Open scheduled for July 16-19 at Royal St. George’s has officially been canceled this year by the R&A. It will now be played July 15-18, 2021 at Royal St. George’s.
The 150th British Open which was supposed to take place at St. Andrews in 2021 will now move to the following year and is scheduled for July 14-17, 2022.
It is with a heavy heart that we have to cancel The Open for the first time since WWII. We appreciate that this will be disappointing for a great many people but we have to act responsibly during this pandemic and it is the right thing to do.

2020 MAJOR DATES RECAP:
- August 6th – 9th — PGA Championship
- September 17th – 20th — U.S. Open
- September 25th – 27th — Ryder Cup
- November 12th – 15th — Masters

How about a Ryder Cup THE WEEK AFTER the U.S. Open and then a little over a month later, The Masters. And don’t forget about the 2021 Masters in April! That’s two Masters in 5 months… AMEN!
PGA Tour Events
Per the PGA Tour, while collaborating with the PGA of America to find a viable date for the PGA Championship in August, they worked with its host organizations and title sponsors to move the regular season finale – The Wyndham Championship – and all three FedEx Cup Playoff events one week later, staring the week of August 10 and concluding with a Monday September 7, Labor Day finish for the Tour Championship.
The first event slated for the PGA Tour’s return is the Memorial at Jack’s place, Muirfield Village June 4-7, 2020, with potentially NO SPECTATORS.
Here are some more PGA Tour schedule changes, per Golf Digest:
— Play will resume at Colonial Country Club for the Charles Schwab Challenge. Originally scheduled for May 21-24 it is expected instead be held June 11-14. The RBC Canadian Open was to be played that week but will not take place then because of a Toronto order that all major city events and event permits have been canceled through June 30 because of coronavirus.
— With the U.S. Open postponed until September, that week will be filled by another tour event, possibly the Rocket Mortgage Classic or the RBC Heritage, which was originally scheduled for the week after the Masters.
— The Travelers Championship (June 25-28) and John Deere Classic (July 9-12), meanwhile, will maintain their dates on the schedule, according to sources familiar with those events, as will the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational (July 2-5).
In a statement released on PGATOUR.COM regarding the changes and revised schedule:
“This is a difficult and challenging time for everyone coping with the effects of this pandemic. We remain very mindful of the obstacles ahead, and each organization will continue to follow the guidance of the leading public health authorities, conducting competitions only if it is safe and responsible to do so.
“In recent weeks, the global golf community has come together to collectively put forward a calendar of events that will, we hope, serve to entertain and inspire golf fans around the world. We are grateful to our respective partners, sponsors and players, who have allowed us to make decisions – some of them, very tough decisions – in order to move the game and the industry forward.
“We want to reiterate that Augusta National Golf Club, European Tour, LPGA, PGA of America, PGA TOUR, The R&A and USGA collectively value the health and well-being of everyone, within the game of golf and beyond, above all else. We encourage everyone to follow all responsible precautions and make effort to remain healthy and safe.”
